At the conclusion of this two part training program the participants will be better able to:   

  1.  Describe what hypnosis is and is not based on basic hypnosis techniques.    
  2. Describe the three levels of mind: conscious, subconscious/unconscious, superconscious / collective unconscious and explain their activities based on basic hypnosis techniques.     
  3. Recite the five ways of learning according to hypnotherapy (repetition, intense emotion, identification, authority and self hypnosis) based on basic hypnosis techniques.    
  4. Demonstrate active listening skills using a three step process of listening based on basic hypnosis techniques.    
  5. Demonstrate 3 inductions, one of which will be progressive relaxation based on basic hypnosis techniques.    
  6. Identify the common signs of hypnosis based on observation of client behavior and basic hypnosis techniques.    
  7. Assess the common signs of hypnosis based on subjective client self report and basic hypnosis techniques.    
  8. Apply 3 suggestibility tests to assess a client’s ability to respond based on basic hypnosis techniques.     
  9. Determine if a client is refractory, good, or skeptic and predict whether a directive or permissive communication style would be most effective based on basic hypnosis techniques.    
  10. Use pretalk to elicit a client’s goals for hypnosis based on basic hypnosis techniques.
  11. Identify moving away and moving toward client communication based in the innate human sympathetic response of fight or flight and basic hypnosis techniques.
  12. Describe the five rules of Gilboyne for developing effective direct suggestions.
  13. Utilize a numeric self report of client mood,-10 to +10 with zero being neutral based on client self report.
  14. Utilize a numeric self report of client motivation level, 0 – 100 with zero being no motivation and 100 being 100% motivated based on client self report.

  24. Describe amnesia based on basic hypnosis techniques.
  25. Select post hypnotic suggestions to prepare the client for improved response to suggestion based on basic hypnosis techniques.
  26. Describe the benefits of round robin in group hypnosis.
  27. Prepare group hypnosis suggestions based on round robin of participants goals and demonstrate delivery of those suggestions through group induction, emergence, and post talk based on basic hypnosis.
  28. Describe bibliotherapy and other homework in hypnosis.
  29. Prepare a self hypnosis recording for use in conditioning a person to respond to suggestions 
  30. Identify the laws pertaining to the professional use of hypnosis and hypnotherapy in the State within which they reside or intend to practice based on the laws of the State and County.

  1. Assess a person to determine their goals for hypnotherapy.
  2. Describe the use of journaling in hypnotherapy.
  3. Utilize journaling in 2 ways for client self awareness and re-education: in session and as homework based on client introspection and reflection.
  4. Describe "root sentences" and demonstrate how to use it in hypnotherapy.
  5. Create root sentences to elicit clarity from a client about objectives, or incomplete ideas based on the client’s self report
  6. Explain how to elicit "values".
  7. Demonstrate how to elicit "values" using root sentences to develop customized direct suggestions for a person. 
  8. Demonstrate resource elicitation as a rapid induction based on the meditations of Virginia Satir.
  9. Apply mindfulness of body state, use creative visualization for grounding, illumination, connections, and use of positive affirmations to improve self esteem based on the essential work of Virginia Satir.
  10. Identify five common communication strategies based on the work of Virginia Satir.
  11. Identify abreaction and demonstrate the appropriate response based on hypnotherapy techniques.
  12. Describe the use of non-verbal cues to identify subtle yes/no responses based on hypnotherapy techniques.
  13. Identify at least two of the Psychodynamic reasons for a problem, and the hypnotic method best suited to use as a therapeutic intervention. 
  14. Describe and demonstrate 3 regression methods based on hypnotherapy techniques.
  15. Describe hypermnesia based on hypnotherapy techniques.
  16. Apply 2 types of time distortation for skills training based on hypnotherapy techniques. 
  17. Assess a client’s presenting issues for use of Parts Therapy, and demonstrate the use of Parts therapy based on hypnotherapy techniques.
  18. Assess a client’s presenting issues for use of regressions to uncover the decisions and stuck places interfering with a client’s goals, and demonstrate the regression based on hypnotherapy techniques.
  19. Apply ideomotor responses for a client to use in creating automatic communication between conscious and subconscious aspects of the client’s mind based on hypnotherapy techniques.
  20. Utilize amnesia for therapeutic purposes in goal achievement based on hypnotherapy techniques.
  21. Demonstrate self hypnosis for study habits and test taking using basic hypnosis techniques.
  22. Assess when a presenting issue can benefit from the practice of forgiveness based on compassionate listening.
  23. Demonstrate 2 forgiveness interventions based on hypnotherapy techniques.
  24. Describe the 10 issues that are commonly found behind symptoms or problems.
  25. Explain the one issue that is assumed to be behind all problems.
  26. Describe how to "peel the onion" using the emotional diagram.
  27. Explain the difference between directive and non-directive hypnosis.
  28. Demonstrate at least 3 rapid inductions.
  29. Define the three rules of dysfuntional families.
